I purchased a Pledge Fabric Sweeper to help clean up pet hair in my house.

Rubber brooms like this are a staple in doggy daycare for their strong hair-gathering ability. The sweeper version of the is effective on several surfaces, so you can de-hair the carpeted living room and the tiled kitchen in one go, and the long handle means you can work the pet hair out of your rugs from a standing position.

After I got the Pledge Fabric Sweeper, I filled it up with pet hair within 3 days of getting it. Our tester enlisted three friends: Jade, a mixed-breed dog, and Precious and Rexy, tabby cats. To collect the copious hair they shed, we used the Pledge sweeper and three other devices: a Scotch Lint Roller, with layered, sticky, disposable sheets; a Scotch Pet Hair Roller, which works the same way; and a Scotch Fur Fighter Hair Remover, a handle to which a disposable, flexible sheet is attached.

So now, a few years and a couple more cats later, I’m finding myself the almost sole caretaker of three fur-balls, who tend to leave – well, a lot of stray ‘fur’ lying around. You see, as indoor cats (well, mostly), they tend to shed year-round. And keeping the furniture and bedding clean from cat hair has become quite the challenge – which is why I was thrilled to have the opportunity to try out Pledge’s new Fabric Sweeper for pet hair.

To use the sweeper: Press down lightly as you sweep side-to-side. Use quick and short strokes, cleaning a 1-2 foot wide area at a time. If pet hair builds up on the rollers, move to a clean area of fabric and sweep side-to-side again. Hair stays trapped inside the sweeper. To empty the sweeper: Hold over a trash receptacle. Slide the yellow latch to unlock position. Separate the lid from the base and empty into trash receptacle. Secure the lid onto the base and slide the yellow latch to the lock position. Make sure small plastic pegs fit into small holes in lid. Not for use on animals. Do not use wet or on wet surfaces. Do not use with any liquid. Do not wash or rinse rollers. Special fabric considerations: For microfiber and suede: Please follow instructions above. Loosened upholstered fabrics: Pull fabric right to ensure effective pick up. Nor for use on vinyl or leather.I love the new pledge fabric sweeper for pet hair, but one little thing about it was bugging me. On the package it comes in, it says you should throw it away and buy a new one when the container fills up with hair. Looking at it, I knew there had to be a way to empty it, but of course Pledge wasn't going to put instructions for emptying it on the box. I almost broke it the first time I tried to figure out how it opened, but then I realized the rollers pop out. So, do not try to pry the back off, it will break :) If you have pets this thing is awesome, just ignore the fact that Pledge could VERY EASILY have advertised it as a reusable product and just put instructions o the package.
