My Penguin 300 is a mule. It is 11 years old and still works asit did back in the day. I cannot say how many times I arrived home afteran apparent power outage and heard the thing gurgling, just trying to getthe prime back. With a scoop of water poured into the unit the gurgleslowly fades into the quiet(and relaxing) sound of trickling water. Thething still has It's original impeller. If it were not for changing thedual rite-size filters, (and the occasional prime up) I would not have togo near it. As much as I would like to try one of the newer Penguinfilters, I just don't have a reason to. But when the day comes and thisone goes to the ol' filter graveyard, you can bet your ugliest Pleco itwill be replaced with another Penguin. Great product Marineland. From:

BTW, AmazonMoosy on Aquabid is selling biowheel retro-fit kits for older Penguin filters (160 300 models) and the Walmart AquaTech filters of the same sizes that don't come with biowheels in the first place:

What I'm asking is, with just the Penguin 300 would I be okay on filtering? If that's not enough would the Penguin 300 + the Emperor 280 be okay? I really don't want to spend $200 on a filter right now.Filter Bags
