Chicken Cordon Bleu is a dish made with chicken breast wrapped around ham and cheese. It is then breaded and cooked by either frying or baking. This video that will show you how to make Chicken Cordon Bleu uses the oven to cook the chicken.
Aside from using chicken, other versions of this recipe makes use of a cutlet, cured meat such as pork, and cheese. A famous method of making chicken cordon bleu is to slice the chicken by butterflying it and then place a thin slice prosciutto (Italian bacon) inside or ham. A slice of cheese is also needed. Roll the chicken to contain the ham and cheese while letting bread crumbs stick to it. Bacon can also be used instead of ham.
Chicken Cordon Bleu is also known as Blue Ribbon Chicken. Yet another recipe from the local paper that I want to try ... some day. I did try this recently and we all really liked it. Next time I think I'll place a small amount of blue cheese on top of the chicken when it comes out of the oven and is served. The cheese/butter mixture melts during cooking and even though the flavor is wonderful, everyone said more cheese on top would be nice. Also, I think the little bit of sauce that there is, would be nice thickened and spooned over the chicken too. Let me know what you think. I've made this recipe twice in one week now! I used only 2 TB of olive oil in the marinade and cooked the chicken in the marinade on the stove top and it has come out so well each time. I will definitely add this to my rotation of chicken dishes.I also have experimented with different types of blue cheese and it has been great each time. This was really, really good. I love blue cheese and would have never thought of doing a sauce like this for chicken. I made this exactly as the recipe directs and I served this with parsley buttered noodles and a green salad with a vinegarette dressing. We drank an Australian Shiraz with the meal and my friends raved about the entire thing. Thank you for an awesome recipe.
